Frequently Asked Questions
How does Ultrasonic Caviation work?
Ultrasonic cavitation is a non-surgical, non-invasive fat removal treatment based on a low frequency ultrasound.
Ultrasound waves are emitted from transducers on the hand piece and travel into the subcutaneous fat causing ‘cavitation’ of the fat cell – the emulsification of solid fat substances releasing triglyceride fluid into the interstitial fluid between cells which is then eliminated through the urinary and the lymphatic systems.
The ultrasound field, when applied to the target area, creates bubbles (known as the Cavitation Effect) in the liquid that surrounds fat cells containing fatty acids, triglycerides and water. These bubbles create internal pressure and movement on the fat cell. This pressure is too much for the cell to withstand, so the bonds of the cell membrane break causing lipids (fats) inside the cell to leak out and disintegrate into a liquid state, which is then expelled through the body’s normal metabolic method as the fluid is enzymatically metabolized to glycerol and free fatty acids.
The result is natural fat loss without damage to other tissues or organs. Ultrasound cavitation destroys fat cells leading to fat storage which is significantly reduced or eliminated
Types of fat
It’s important to understand the difference between visceral fat and subcutaneous fat.
Subcutaneous tissue sits in front of the muscle wall, beneath the skin. It’s usually pinch-able and pliable and can be pulled away from the body. Women are more prone to subcutaneous fat than men. Subcutaneous fat does not respond well to diet and exercise. Ultrasonic cavitation works beautifully with subcutaneous fat.
Visceral fat is the deep, internal fat behind the muscle wall. Healthy levels of visceral fat help to insulate and protect your internal organs, and also play a role in your endocrine and immune functions. However, excessive amounts or visceral fat can spell serious trouble for your performance and health. Visceral fat is two times more responsive to diet and exercise than subcutaneous fat. Visceral fat cannot be treated with ultrasonic cavitation.
Does it work on cellulite?
Yes, low frequency ultrasound (40kHz) generally works well on cellulite by focusing the ‘cavitation effect’ on the superficial fat tissue. Best results are obtained when the ultrasound is applied in conjunction with the ‘radio frequency’ (RF) and Vacuum Therapy, which helps to tighten and tone the skin and break up pinched fascia that creates the dimpling affect.
Is Ultrasonic Cavitation safe?
Yes, it is a safe, comfortable, and non-invasive procedure with virtually no side effects. It does not require anesthesia, leaves no scars and does not require any post treatment. The ultrasound energy is designed to target fatty tissues beneath the skin only, and does not affect the blood vessels, nerves and connective tissues.
Does Ultrasonic Caviation hurt?
No, the treatment is painless. A slight tingling sensation or buzzing in the ear may sometimes be felt during the treatment. Some heat sensation may also be felt during treatment but no pain. Any slight reddening of the skin which may sometimes develop during or soon after treatment quickly disappears, some report a ‘post workout’ type of soreness.
Can I lose weight with Ultrasonic Caviation?
Fat Cavitation is not a treatment for obesity nor is it a weight loss procedure. Rather is a method for ‘reshaping’ and ‘toning’ the body. It is particularly intended to reduce localized fat tissues which are resistant to exercise around the abdomen (love handles), buttocks, and thighs (saddle bags), that won’t easily go away by simple dieting and exercise.
How many treatments will I need?
The number of treatments needed to see noticeable changes varies from person to person. Most clients will need anywhere between 6-12 treatments for optimal results. Some results may be noticed immediately, but definite results are generally noticed after the third treatment.
Treatments can be performed 3 day apart, but no closer as the body needs time for the elimination process. Treatment duration Treatment duration is generally 20 to 30 minutes per area.
What long term effects can I expect?
You can achieve ‘volume reduction’ of fatty tissues and ‘toning of the body’. The results are gradual over a number of weeks as your body clears the broken down fatty tissues. The results can be long lasting provided you follow a healthy diet and exercise program. However it is very easy to deposit fat again into the tissues if one over-eats, consumes too much alcohol or lives a sedentary lifestyle. Ultimately the result may vary depending on the individual’s different tissue structure, treatment area, age, metabolism, medication, and changes in hormones.
Does it work for everyone?
It is ideal for people who are dissatisfied with certain areas of fatty deposits but do not want to undergo any invasive surgical treatment like liposuction.
A good candidate is someone looking for fat removal from a specific area. The treatment does not necessarily result in overall weight loss, but results in improved shape & contour and size reduction in the treatment area.
If you are currently following a healthy diet or a good weight loss plan, results will be more significant and weight loss will more likely occur.
Great results can be obtained for those who have up to 25 – 30 pounds or less to lose. Cavitation is ideal for those who have tried to shift the stubborn fatty bulges with diet or exercise and are aiming for a smoother and more balanced shape.
Ultrasound Cavitation and RF body contouring is not a treatment for morbid obesity nor is it a weight loss cure. If a significant amount of surplus fat exists, we recommend successfully dieting before beginning the treatment program. A consultation will determine whether or not you are a good candidate for the procedures.
Can everyone have Ultrasonic Cavitation?
Unfortunately not all treatments are for everyone. Please check our contraindications list to make sure you avoid disappointment.

Undergoing chemotherapy or immune therapy
High blood pressure (uncontrolled)
Prednisone and other steroid medications (treatment will increase inflammation)

Numb or insensitive to heat
Active implanted device such as pacemaker or defibrillator
Recent surgery (wait 6 months)
Recent scars (wait 6 months)
Open lesions (avoid area)

What should I do before and after my treatment?
Drink at least 2 liters of water before your treatment and another 2 liters per day following your treatment (soft drink, soda, juice or tea is not water).
Refrain from ANY alcohol consumption for 2 – 3 days following your treatments. Alcohol can prevent your liver from working to remove fats as it will make alcohol metabolism its priority before fat removal and could hinder your results.
Refrain from caffeine for 3-4 days prior to your treatment and for 48 hours after treatment.
Avoid eating 2 hours prior and 1 hour after your treatment.
Refrain from aspirin, ibuprofen or other anti-inflammatory products for 2 days prior and after your treatment.
Use dry skin brushing daily to stimulate lymph movement (your therapist will show you how to do this).
Do not have a hot shower (warm is alright), spa or sauna straight after treatment.
Diet: Follow a low carb, low starch, low sugar diet for best results.
Exercise: Do brisk exercise for at least 20 minutes after your treatment to stimulate lymph movement.
