What is Microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion is a facial procedure that uses manual exfoliation to remove the outer layer of skin. This process works in a series to achieve the best results. We use a Diamond tipped wand to abrade the surface of your skin.
How does Diamond Microdermabrasion work?
Genuine, laser-cut sterile diamond tips gently abrade the upper layer of the skin to polish the skin surface while a vacuum removes particles and impurities and dead skin cells. This treatment increases the absorption of products into the skin which can help to rejuvenate and replenish the skin still further. It also stimulates the production of collagen and elastin, resulting in a more youthful appearance and healthy skin. The combination of vacuum and pressure ensure diamond-peel uniformity and allow for personalised exfoliation treatments, according to skin type.
What happens in a treatment?
We start by cleansing your skin and prepping it for your treatment. The diamond microdermabrasion wand glides over the skin with the advantage over crystal microdermabrasion of being able to go under the eyes. After your treatment we apply a serum and masque to treat any skin concerns and finish with a moisturiser and SPF.
How can Microdermabrasion benefit my skin?
Microdermabrasion can reduce the appearance of wrinkles, reduce acne scars, blackheads, minimise the size of the pores, reduce sun damage, and even out the skin tone. Microdermabrasion also helps to boost collagen production to provide firming and toning to the complexion.
What will my skin be like after and is there any aftercare?
Microdermabrasion is a safe and gentle procedure. The client will need to protect his or her skin with moisturiser and sun block for 48 hours after the treatment and may experience mild redness and sloughing/peeling. However, the client can return to work immediately, which is why many clients prefer to have microdermabrasion treatments on their lunch breaks since there is no downtime.
How Many Treatments Do I Need?
When it comes to microdermabrasion, one treatment will not provide instant results. That is why it is important to have a series of microdermabrasion services, 3 to 6 are recommended for the best results. These initial 3 to 6 treatments can be spaced one week apart, and from that point, the client can continue to receive one treatment on a monthly basis for the best maintenance.
What is the difference between Crystal Microdermabrasion and Diamond Microdermabrasion?
The regular crystal microdermabrasion technology involves the use of a special, hand-held device that propels a high-speed flow of aluminum oxide crystals onto the skin. At the same time, the machine's vacuum system sucks away dirt, dead cells and used crystals.
Aluminum oxide crystals have been the most commonly used abrasive agent for the last 20 years. Aluminum oxide is the second hardest mineral (diamonds are first). There has been a link between aluminum use on the body (deodorants) and cancer. Sodium bicarbonate crystals are an organic alternative to aluminum oxide crystals but they are a lot softer and less effective in microdermabrasion.
The diamond dermabrasion system, on the other hand, replaces the micro-crystal flow with a laser cut diamond tip wand. Areas closer to the eyes and mouth can be abraded more accurately with diamond abrasion (no risk of stray crystals causing damage, getting into your eyes, nose or being ingested). No risk to the operator for repetitive exposure. Other than that, crystal-free diamond head microdermabration works in the same way traditional microabrasion does. Diamond microderm machines usually come with wands of varied size and coarseness for different skin types and depths of resurfacing. The wand tip is made of natural laser cut diamond chips which polish the skin and remove dead cells, which are then vacuumed back into a waste filter. Many professionals prefer natural diamond tips because they are easier to control don't irritate the skin and give a more precise treatment (natural minerals are less likely to trigger adverse reactions).
